May is truly one of the best months to visit or live in Mallorca. The sun is shining and it’s warm without being too hot. The sea is starting to warm up, the biggest tourist crowds haven’t arrived yet, and at the same time the whole island is fully open and alive. So what should you make sure to do on a sunny, unplanned day? We’ve put together three full day examples, complete with activities and restaurant and café tips that are perfect for a sunny day in May, each with a slightly different focus!

1. The relaxed beach day – Classic Cala Llombards, market & lunch in the sun
Focus: Swimming, calm, and long lunches by the sea
Start the day in Santanyí with breakfast at Mallorquino. Order a coffee, fresh juice, and something simple, a perfect start before the heat sets in. If you’re here on a Saturday, take a stroll through the market, which is still not overcrowded.
Then drive about 10 minutes to Cala Llombards, one of those coves that almost feels too beautiful to be real. It’s a classic spot you might want to avoid in peak season, but in May it’s still often peaceful, especially in the morning.
Settle down on the rocks or the beach, swim, read, and just enjoy. The water is starting to become pleasant, and the sun is just the right strength.
When it’s time for lunch, head to Cala Llombards Beach Bar or one of the small nearby restaurants. Here you can sit right by the sea and let lunch stretch on for hours.
End the day by heading back to Santanyí for dinner at Es Cantonet. Small, cozy, truly delicious food, perfect after a beach day.
2. Adventure – Valdemossa, Deiá & the Tramuntana mountains
Focus: Nature, views, and charming villages
Start early and drive towards Valldemossa. Have breakfast or coffee at Ca’n Molinas. Don’t miss their coca de patata.
Continue on to Deià, one of Mallorca’s most iconic villages. Here you can either wander through the streets or go for a short hike in the surrounding area.
For a little mini excursion, walk or drive down to Cala Deià. Take a swim if you dare, the water is a bit colder here, and enjoy the dramatic cliffs.
Lunch is of course at Ca’s Patro March, one of the most spectacular lunch spots on the island, right by the water.
On the way back, stop for views along the Serra de Tramuntana. It’s almost impossible not to want to pull over every five minutes.
End the day in Palma with a simple dinner or just a glass of wine in the evening sun.
3. A luxurious holiday day – Palma, cafés & dinner in the city
Focus: Wandering, food, and city vibes
Start the day in Palma with breakfast or brunch at Montys Café, Nala Brunch and Coffee, or Mocaro. Sit back, relax, and ease into the day.
Afterwards, stroll through the old town, get lost in the narrow streets, browse small shops, and stop for coffee along the way. Alternatively, head to Can Pastilla and PuroBeach Club, which opens in May, and enjoy good music, great food, and drinks right by the sea during the day.
In the afternoon, sit down at a cozy café for something cold to drink or a snack in the sun, or head home or back to your hotel to get ready for the evening.
Dinner is at La Rosa Vermutería. Perfect for sharing plates, vermouth, and cocktails.
Want to continue the night? Have a glass of wine at a nearby bar and enjoy the fact that May evenings are still pleasantly cool.
No matter which day you choose, you’ll notice that May in Mallorca has a special feeling, like a calm anticipation before summer truly begins. It’s that perfect balance between energy and ease, where everything still feels a little more authentic and accessible. So make the most of it, hop between beaches, villages, and city life, enjoy long lunches in the sun, and let the days unfold at their own pace. Because this is exactly when Mallorca is at its very best.
